FSU’s psychology program emphasizes active learning, giving you the chance to learn about topics of psychology ranging from counseling, neuroscience, child development, addictions, animal behavior and how psychological principles apply to the workplace and daily life through active learning. Psychological research investigates practical issues that concern most people as well as theoretical ideas that challenge our critical thinking.

You will get the chance to work with your professors to conduct research and get practical hands-on experience while applying your knowledge in our very successful internship program. As you progress through the program, you'll work with our faculty to learn from a wide range of expertise and guidance as they help you pursue your goals. Psychology Program Highlights

Learn skills valued by employers, including the ability to think critically and analytically in addition to the ability to work with people in a variety of circumstances and workplaces. You will also gain skills that apply directly to your field of interest (such as counseling, child development, industrial/organizational psychology).
Take part in valuable research and internship experiences.
Study with enthusiastic faculty with wide-ranging expertise which includes counseling and clinical psychology, human development, animal cognition, human sexuality, research methods and design, neuroscience and industrial/organizational psychology.
Choose to take classes in our Addictions Counseling or Child and Family emphasis programs to help with graduate school or careers in those fields. FSU also offers two popular interdisciplinary minors -- Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Animal Behavior.

With your Psychology degree, you will have a wide range of options after graduating. Within the mental health field, you will be prepared for the in-demand jobs such as human service workers or gain additional training to become a clinical or counseling psychologist. You can also receive certifications to work as a substance abuse counselor at the bachelor’s level. Other fields that psychology majors find opportunities in include human resources, education, research data collection and management. You can choose to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s or doctorate degree that would open up even more career opportunities. FSU has a master’s program in Counseling Psychology for those interested in continuing their education beyond a bachelor’s degree. You can also look towards graduate level study in industrial/organizational psychology, human resources and experimental psychology, among other fields.

What You'll Learn

You will learn to view and analyze human thought, feeling and behavior from a variety of perspectives by discovering how to critically read, analyze, and interpret scientific research findings. You will enhance your ability to create research questions and design studies and develop the skills (such as counseling practices) needed in order to help others.
