FSU’s psychology program emphasizes active learning, giving you the chance to learn about topics of psychology ranging from counseling, neuroscience, child development, addictions, animal behavior and how psychological principles apply to the workplace and daily life through active learning. Psychological research investigates practical issues that concern most people as well as theoretical ideas that challenge our critical thinking.
You will get the chance to work with your professors to conduct research and get practical hands-on experience while applying your knowledge in our very successful internship program. As you progress through the program, you'll work with our faculty to learn from a wide range of expertise and guidance as they help you pursue your goals. Choose to take classes in our Addictions Counseling or Child and Family emphasis programs to help with graduate school or careers in those fields. FSU also offers two popular interdisciplinary minors -- Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Animal Behavior.

What You'll Learn
You will learn to view and analyze human thought, feeling and behavior from a variety of perspectives by discovering how to critically read, analyze, and interpret scientific research findings. You will enhance your ability to create research questions and design studies and develop the skills (such as counseling practices) needed in order to help others.The skills they taught me in the psychology department were essential to actually attaining a higher degree, and I still use those skills at work every day.
